Jump on your bike and explore Jane Austen country and the home of the famous Watercress Line railway. The rolling countryside around Alton has some picturesque villages and will provide a great backdrop to your exploration of the area.

There are 9 off road cycle routes in Alton:

Abbotstone Down - This 18 mile moderate difficulty route commences from Abbotstone Down, and follows both ‘The Ox Drove Way’ and ‘Wayfarers Walk’ for part of its length. Rolling chalk hills and bluebell woods abound.

Alton - 10 miles long and rated as 'moderate', this trail is easily accessible from Alton or Four Marks. It uses tracks through Chawton Park Wood and continues to Bentworth village. Undulating tracks lead the trail through Wivelrod, Beech, Ackender Wood and the outskirts of Alton.

Basingstoke - 17 miles long but one of the less demanding routes, easily accessible from Basingstoke. Journeys through a typical Hampshire farm landscape, gently undulating in places and passing near the source of the River Test.

Blackwater Valley - An easy 7.8 miles, fairly flat route that takes you through this hidden secret of the Black Water River.

Ellisfield - 13 miles long, this trail is largely off road, using tracks through woods and fields of mid-Hampshire. There are a couple of gentle climbs, but overall it is not too demanding.

Liphook - A 9 mile circular trail around Liphook which explores the woods at Ludshott Common and Woolmer Forest, as well as the villages of Bramshott and Conford.

Vernham - 23 Miles long and strenuous, this hilly route, mainly on hard flint and gravel tracks in the northwest of the county, passes through several picturesque villages. North of Ibthorpe, there are spectacular views across Faccombe Down.

Watership Down - An invigorating 17 mile ride which takes in some of Hampshire’s finest scenery. The route begins on a quiet country lane followed by a challenging off-road climb and continues along the ridge of Watership Down.

Whitchurch - 23 mile challenging trail covering many of the places that were an inspiration for Richard Adams’ ‘Watership Down’. Stunning views from Woodcott Down and Ladle Hill contrast with the picturesque Hampshire villages of St. Mary Bourne and Binley.
