There’s an amazingly varied cycling offer awaiting you in Hampshire. Whether you plan on riding on or off-road you’ll find an array of stunning routes to ride combined with the very best café stops and pubs.
This is certainly not the flat South East, with the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park to the east and North Wessex Downs to the north providing rewarding road and mountain bike terrain. This is an area of short, stiff and testing climbs, chalk streams and pretty villages and market towns.
Winchester is the start of the legendary 100 mile South Downs Way and is a great place to base any cycling break with the South Downs and Meon Valley to the east and beautiful Test Valley to the west.
South Hampshire with its naval heritage, estuaries and flat terrain makes great family cycling territory and include the recently improved Meon Valley Trail and Hayling Billy Trail.
The New Forest National Park is also particularly well suited to family cycling with its miles of off-road tracks and gently undulating terrain.

Northern Hampshire features rolling chalk downlands that make ideal on and off-road cycling territory and offer a comprehensive network of surprisingly quiet bridleways, country lanes, challenging climbs and stunning views.
Whilst the 100 mile South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne has almost legendary status, there’s so much more on offer. This is one of the most popular destinations for both road and off-road cyclists in Southern England.
Discover the quintessential Englishness of the Test Valley in West Hampshire by bike. Follow the river Test as it meanders through ancient woodlands, tranquil water meadows and rolling chalk hills.
Winchester is renowned as the gateway to 100mile South Downs Way challenge. The city’s central location in Hampshire also makes it a first-class start point for exploring the rest of the county, including the Test Valley and North Hampshire.
Southampton is a bike friendly city with traffic-free trails, urban cycle paths and routes on quiet roads, plus major cycling events.
