About
Join the affable chefs Melissa Hemsley and Skye Gyngell in a conversation about waste, sustainability and food and wellness. Moderated by Helena Lee, features director of Harper's Bazaar and Town & Country.
Melissa is a cook, writer and champion of sustainable, nourishing food who loves to celebrate easy, affordable and sustainable healthy food that everyone can enjoy with minimum impact on the planet. Following the success of her first bestselling solo cookbook, 'Eat Happy', Melissa is releasing her new cookbook, 'Eat Green', in January 2020.
Sharing 100 practical, flexitarian recipes, 'Eat Green' celebrates vegetables as the star ingredient, with simple swaps included, meaning that meat and fish can be added in or taken away, so everyone can enjoy a delicious meal. Each recipe focuses on UK-grown, easy-to-buy ingredients, cutting down on food waste and celebrating the very best seasonal produce, whether they are an omnivore, vegetarian or in between – with extra emphasis on using up all those odds and ends which usually get thrown away. Alongside recipes, 'Eat Green' is packed with Melissa's great USPs including time saving tricks, efficiency tweaks and seasonal swaps.
One of Britain's most well-respected chefs, Australian-born Skye Gyngell is best known for her seasonally-focused culinary style. Having trained in Sydney and Paris, Skye moved to London and worked at The French House before securing Head Chef role at Petersham Nurseries, which achieved a Michelin star under her stewardship, and moving to set up Spring at Somerset House in 2014. Skye joined Heckfield Place as Culinary Director before the opening, and has been instrumental in guiding the culinary concept and estate offering.
In her role at Heckfield Place, Skye oversees the menus at Marle & Hearth, as well as the seasonal Sun House restaurant. Her signature style of dishes created using local, fresh ingredients underpin all that is served at Heckfield Place, with Skye working closely with the Home Farm team to serve produce grown on the estate.
Helena is responsible for the art and culture content for both Harper's Bazaar and Town & Country, and commissions writers including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Jeanette Winterson. Her contributions to the magazine have ranged from interviews with Kylie, Marina Abramovic and Adwoa Aboah to pieces about East Asian identity. She co-edits the annual magazine Bazaar Art, and invites high-profile artists, such as Tracey Emin and Yoko Ono, to collaborate each year. In 2018, she programmed and launched both the Bazaar Literary Salon, featuring talks with the writers Ali Smith, Elif Shafak, and Jessie Burton, and Bazaar Art Week, a series of expert panels, private views and events celebrating women in the art world.
