Get all shook up and join in a very special celebration of the life and legacy of The King of Rock 'n Roll, to mark the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley's passing.
On Saturday 19 August from 2pm until late in the evening, Port Solent will be transformed into Viva Port Solent. Anticipated to be the ultimate Elvis anniversary event in the south, visitors can revel in free live music, enjoy an outdoor cinema and entertainment for all the family.
The extravaganza stars the UK's premier Elvis tribute artist Mike Nova, crowned in Memphis as Best UK Elvis Champion, fresh from BBC TV appearances and producing the largest Elvis Festival in the world every September in South Wales.
A huge helping of rock 'n roll with bite from the Jesse Ray Band will give the feeling and excitement of being at an actual Elvis concert and ensure everyone dances the night away. To remind all how to do it, the Swing Dance Company will be giving classes ready to put the moves into practice.
Lisa Fowler, events manager at Port Solent, said: "Viva Port Solent will be an extravaganza of free fun and entertainment to pay tribute to Elvis and the 40th anniversary of his passing. We aim for this to be a full-on, joyous occasion. Fans should wear their best Elvis outfits to set the scene and enter in our great fancy dress competition, and we'll make sure a photo booth is there to capture all the fun.
"The wide-ranging entertainment aims to get everyone singing and dancing, led by Elvis tribute artist Mike Nova. The live acts promise to get us all rockin'. An outdoor showing of the classic film Viva Las Vegas will be running late into the night to give us all the chance to reminisce about The King. The event is totally free and you don't need to pay to park.
All 17 restaurants and bars will be open throughout the celebration and the Creation Station will get kids involved with Elvis guitar, glasses and sideburn-making. We are all getting very excited here as the plans come to fruition and we can't wait to welcome everyone.
