About
Portsmouth Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Portsmouth, which covers south-east Hampshire, Portsea Island and the Isle of Wight. It is the base of the Bishop of Portsmouth, and the focal point for many diocese-wide services and events.
It is also a centre of Worship and Mission . Worship and prayer, formal and informal, are offered to God here every day of the year. Congregations range from over 1000 to under 10 and the worship takes many different forms. We warmly welcome everyone, no matter what their previous religious experience. We seek to worship God and to share his love with all those who come here.
It is, further, the Parish Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, serving all those who live in its geographical parish rather like any other parish church.
For centuries the Cathedral has watched, listened and helped the people of Portsmouth navigate the passage of time. It has witnessed wars and peace, famous marriages, been bombed and rebuilt. Now there stands a building of greatness and of simple enduring beauty.
