About
The award winning Hayling Ferry operates throughout the year - from Eastney Point on Portsea Island to Ferry Point on Hayling Island. The Ferry route crosses the narrow 300 metre entrance to Langstone Harbour and takes 3 minutes - saving a 15 mile journey by road in the process.
Bicycles are carried free of charge and the Ferry link forms part of National Cycle Route 2, connecting the scenic Hayling Billy Trail to the seafront cycleway along Southsea seafront.
The Ferry crossing also makes up part of the 50 mile Shipwrights Way from Adam Rowe Forest down through Hampshire and Hayling Island with a Ferry trip to Eastney then onward to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Another scenic day out - completed by a trip on the Ferry - is the 14 mile Langstone Harbour circular walk and ride with the Ferry Boat Inn next to the Hayling Ferry terminal supplying refreshment to weary travellers.
During the Summer months, the Ferry is busy with visitors from Southsea travelling to the sandy beaches of Hayling and in June, to the Kitesurfing Armada Festival on Hayling West beach - just a few hundred metres from the Ferry terminal.
Commuters and schoolchildren travel daily to Portsmouth throughout the year. For special events in Portsmouth, the Ferry offers an extended service. The highlight of the year is the 3 day Victorious Festival in August on Southsea Common with late ferry sailings running beyond midnight for festival goers travelling to and from Hayling.
The Hayling Ferry can carry 63 passengers and is purpose built for cyclists with boarding ramps and onboard cycle racks.
When visiting Portsmouth or Hayling Island take a trip on the Ferry to experience the contrast between the two adjacent islands.
