About
The Basingstoke & District Model Engineering Society was established in 1975, by a small group of like-minded individuals. We are now a well-established model engineering club with facilities to run steam locomotives, traction engines and scale rolling stock. Members of the public are able to ride on the railway on the first Sunday of most months from 11am to 4pm. See our website for details of public running days at our club track at the Viables Craft Centre.
The club has an elevated track for running locomotives of either 5” or 3½” gauges and a smaller garden railway loop for our smaller locomotives. The raised track has been recently refurbished.
Model making is a broad term which is used to categorise all areas of making things in all materials and covers accurate replicas as well as freelance designs in miniature and not so miniature. It comes with its own skill set as scaling introduces some interesting challenges.
We are always pleased to welcome new members of all abilities and interests as model engineering is not just railways and traction engines. Our current members represent a wide range of backgrounds and interests. For information about the club please check out our website and ‘like’ our Facebook page.
