Spring into February fun with a month filled with Valentine’s events, half term activities, and much more. Here are our top picks of what’s happening in Hampshire this February.

Whales at Winchester Cathedral

Until Wednesday 26 February 2025

Have a whale of a time seeing the incredible art installation of three monumental marine life sculptures by artist Tessa Campbell Fraser at Winchester Cathedral, with a series of special events taking place whilst they are in situ until 26 February 2025 including silent discos for families and adults on Saturday 15 February.

The Slime Show at Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium

Saturday 1 February – Sunday 23 March 2025, on weekends and during February half term

Slimy science fun has arrived at Winchester Science Centre this February with the brand new live science show, The Slime Show bringing slime to the stage with gloopy and glorious slime-fuelled experiments.

There’s also the slime science-fiction in the planetarium with Starlight Cinema: Flubber on Sunday 16 February.

Plus, After Dark events with solar system show The Planetarium Live on 14 February, a Led Zeppelin  audio-visual experience on 15 February, the Planetarium visualisation of iconic album by Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon on 22 February, and a stargazing astro adventure with Night Sky Live on 27 February.

Chinese New Year Southampton

Saturday 8 February 2025

Celebrating the vibrant cultural celebration of Chinese New Year, Southampton will mark the arrival of the Year of the Snake on Saturday 8 February with a series of exciting events, performances, and festivities including a Dragon Parade and Traditional Lion Dance in Guildhall Square.

Valentine’s events at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery

Friday 14 February – Sunday 16 February 2025

Shake things up with your partner or pals with some Valentine’s weekend fun at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery.

There will also be a Galentine's Cocktail & Cinema Night on Friday 14 February, a Premium Valentine's Gin Experience on Saturday 15 February, and Valentine's Cinema Nights on 15 and 16 February in the Sapphire Cinema.

City Reflections, Southampton

Friday 14 February – Sunday 23 February 2025

February half-term brings City Reflections to life – an exciting new light installation on the walls of the Esplanade, celebrating Southampton's Community Legends.

This new city light show is a stunning visual spectacle, running nightly from 6–9pm throughout February half-term. It offers a glimpse into the stories and faces of a selection of Southampton's local legends – a celebration of the extraordinary contributions of people across the city.

Hands On History at Beaulieu

Saturday 15 February – Sunday 23 February 2025

Have some Hands On History fun during February half term at Beaulieu and step back in time with exciting historical activities and Living History Characters.

Meet the people working throughout the attraction – including the friendly mechanic in the 1930s garage, the driver of the open-topped London Bus, and the Montagu family cook in the Victorian Kitchen –  learn about the importance of their trade with hands-on activities, and collect their Living History Character cards.

Magic of Locomotion at Watercress Line

Saturday 15 February – Sunday 23 February 2025

There will be steam train magic at the Watercress Line during February half term with marvellous magicians, spellbinding shows, tricks and entertainment on board the heritage trains.

The magical journeys will take passengers through the scenery of the South Downs National Park while children fill in activity sheets and enjoy the enchanting entertainment.

Penguin Trail at Gilbert White's House & Gardens

Saturday 15 February – Sunday 23 February 2025

Little ones will love waddling around the gardens of Gilbert White’s House during half term to find the six baby penguins lost in the gardens.

Gilbert White’s House & Gardens is also one of the best places in Hampshire to see snowdrops in February with its annual celebratory snowdrop weekend taking place on the 15 and 16 February  with half price admission for all and tours throughout the day.

February Half Term at Sky Park Farm

Monday 17 February – Saturday 22 February 2025

It’s set to be an action-packed half term week at Sky Park Farm in West Harting in the South Downs, kicking off with Ranger School on 17 February, followed by a Supersonic Science Show on 18 February, Trainmaster UK on 19 February, Wild About Britain on 20 February, and Family Movie Days on 21 and 22 February.

Sing-a-Long-a Encanto at New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth

Wednesday 19 February

Bringing some Columbian cheer to February half term, this sing-along rendition of the much-loved Disney movie Encanto is sure to be an evening of heartwarming fun with evening's live host leading the singing and teaching some dance moves to join in with La Familia Madrigal.

Room on the Broom at MAST Mayflower Studios

Thursday 20 February – Sunday 23 February

Iggety ziggety zaggety zoom! Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved witch is whizzing into MAST Mayflower Studios Southampton on her broomstick from 20 – 23 February for a fun-filled adaptation of the best-selling picture book.

Find out if there’s room on the broom for everyone as she picks up some friends along the way in this magical show.

RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show at Farnborough International Exhibition and Conferencing Centre

Saturday 22 February – Sunday 23 February

Set sail for the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show at Farnborough International Exhibition and Conferencing Centre on the weekend of 22 and 23 February – a must-visit event for all sailing and watersports fans.

Featuring dinghy sailing, windsurfing, wingsurfing & foiling and paddleboarding, there will be interactive family fun, displays and demos, live coaching sessions, hundreds of boats and the biggest names in marine retail all under one roof at this season-opening show.

Jane Austen's Travelling Writing Desk on display at a space, Southampton

Until Sunday 23 February 2025

February is the last chance to see Jane Austen’s travelling writing desk at God’s House Tower in Southampton, currently on loan from the British Library as part of the Jane Austen 250 celebrations until 23 February.

It’s being displayed in the city for the first time since she lived in Southampton over 200 years ago, providing literary and history fans the chance to see up-close what she used to pen early drafts of now internationally famous novels.

The Training for a Heroine exhibition tells the story Jane Austen as a young, ambitious writer at the beginning of her career, and giving insight into her life and her time in Southampton where she lived briefly in 1783 and from 1806-1809.
