Pick your own or take your pic amongst the lofty blooms, Hampshire’s sunny south coast climate is great news for anthophiles as summer here heralds several spectacular sunflower fields that pop up across the county every August – here are five of our faves.
Be sure to check with each flower field before visiting for opening dates and times.

Sam’s Sunflowers, Hayling Island
Sam’s Sunflowers on Hayling Island usually opens in late July for your chance to pick some gorgeous sunflowers along with plenty of photo opps and props nestled amongst the cheerful blooms.
There’s also a maize maze and occasional tractor/trailer rides (additional charges apply). Keep an eye on the Sam’s Sunflowers website for regular updates on when the patch will open.

Picking Patch, New Forest
On the edge of the New Forest near Fordingbridge, Picking Patch opens it sunflower field for 2024 from 22 August to 1 September.
As well as nine varieties of sunflower to pick, there’s a puzzle maize maze, escape rooms, graffiti, crafts, games, picnic pods, and plenty of Instagrammable photo opportunities.

The Flower Pot PYO, Hook
Located between Basingstoke and Reading, The Flower Pot PYO prides itself on growing sunflowers for a wild bird mix, as part of the farm’s environmental stewardship scheme. Visitors can pick sunflowers but plenty are left to encourage bees and other pollinators in the summer and birds over the winter months.
There’s also a sunflower shack serving drinks, cakes, and ice cream, plus a bale play area for children, nature trail, and barrel train rides.

Silkstead Sunflowers, Winchester
Located at Four Dells Farm on the outskirts of the city of Winchester, this 10-acre sunflower field offers stunning photo opportunities. Explore the sunflower maze and find the viewing tower where you can experience 360 views of the field. Adventure through the sunflower trail and find the hidden props before enjoying a well-deserved ice cream.

The Rotherwick Patch, Hook
A sunny welcome awaits at the family-run Rotherwick Patch near Basingstoke, a summer PYO sunflower patch and maize maze.
The 2024 dates are yet to be confirmed but keep an eye on Rotherwick Patch’s website for updates on sunflowers and the maize maze, news about opening dates, and access to early-bird booking.

Picking Patch hosts a family friendly summer event over sunflower season. From sunflower picking, A puzzle maize maze, Escape rooms, Graffiti and crafts, to local food and drink, there really is something for everyone.
