On a fine, sunny day is there anything better than cooling off with an ice cream? Whatever your preferred flavour, whether you love a flake or a spot of sprinkles, you are in for a treat with our best ice cream spots in Hampshire. Here are some of our favourites…
Ben & Shelley’s Ice Cream Parlour, Hayling Island
Serving up all manner of flavours on Hayling Island, Ben & Shelley’s is a popular spot for scooped ice cream, whipped ice cream and all manners of desserts.
Added to this, dairy free and vegan ice creams and sorbets are also offered.
Now, the tough part is deciding which one to go for!
Platform 1 Shawford
Try the very best of Italian gelato at Platform 1. This independent café sits within the station at Shawford. Choose from a number of tempting flavours including morello cherry, mango sorbet and your classics of vanilla and strawberry.
Burley Ice Creams, New Forest
Create your own ice cream from a range of flavours, cones and toppings at Burley Ice Cream Parlour. Right in the heart of Burley village, look out for free roaming donkeys and New Forest Ponies as you lick at your tasty treat. The perfect way to end a day exploring all that the New Forest has to offer.
Hans & Gretel, Southampton
With artisan gelato and tempting treats such as bubble waffles with oodles of flavour (and ice cream too of course!), Hans & Gretel sits within Southampton’s Westquay Shopping Centre. Cool off after a busy time shopping or visiting Southampton’s sights. You’ll find Hans & Gretel on the level 4 of Westquay.
Dylan’s, Petersfield
Boasting locally-sourced ingredients such as strawberries grown at Bishop’s Waltham, try the different varieties of ice cream at Dylan’s Petersfield parlour (opening Saturday 25th May). Flavours include your standard flavours, plus some special ones… camouflage (in homage to the Hampshire’s military connections, perhaps), all natural unicorn and asteroid belt. Yum!
Waffles and Cream, Chandler’s Ford
This family-run ice cream parlour and dessert shop has all manner of flavours of gelato and ice cream to try. Chocolate orange gelato? Or how about a scoop or two of cookie dough? Look out for seasonal specials too with Mini Egg gelato making an appearance at Easter time, for example.
Ice Cream Emporium, Southsea
Located on South Parade Pier, Ice Cream Emporium serves up Southsea’s famous pink and white ice creams. Take a seat inside or grab an ice cream to takeaway and enjoy whilst sitting on Southsea’s shingly beach.
The Flintstones Tea Room, Emsworth
Just a short stroll from Emsworth's harbour will lead you to The Flintstones Tea Room. During busy times, the hatch will be open for all manner of ice creams and ice cream-based milkshakes. Take them away and sit by the harbour wall watching the comings and goings of the harbour and families crabbing. Don’t forget your four-legged friend too, doggy ice creams are also on offer here!
