Special Hampshire anniversaries in 2024

2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy Landings on 6 June 1944. Hampshire was the starting place for many troops travelling to the beaches in Normandy and many locations throughout the county were used as temporary bases before D-Day. The D-Day Story in Portsmouth will be marking the occasion with a host of special events, and further details of the commemorations across the UK will be released in 2024.

The 250-year anniversary of the birth of famed author, and Hampshire resident, Jane Austen is in 2025 but the Austen anticipation will begin in 2024 not least because Jane Austen’s House celebrates its own 75th anniversary in 2024. Keep an eye on our Jane Austen's 250th anniversary page for details of events and celebrations.
