About
Welcome to a place for good cheer, fantastic food, and a damn good pint. A place where ramblers’ chilled bones are warmed before a glowing hearth, comforting aromas of home-cooking emanate from the bustling kitchen, and summer evenings are whiled away in a garden simply made for the golden hour. Welcome to The Mutton at Hazeley Heath.
Former 19th century post office, turned public house, turned all-star, award-winning, family-run countryside bolthole, Hampshire’s newly crowned ‘Pub of the Year’ in the National Pub & Bar Awards 2024 and holder of two AA-Rosettes, is everything a dream local should be.
As one would expect from a pub housed in a lovingly restored slice of English history on the fringe of a Nature Reserve, quintessential country charm is in ample supply. Large, exposed brick fireplaces, low beamed ceilings and multi-panelled Georgian windows genteelly framing stunning views over rolling, green fields; the Taylor family has sympathetically preserved the building’s quirky character.
British classics with a conscience is the name of the game when it comes to The Mutton’s fantastic food offering. A champion of local businesses through and through, The Mutton draws inspiration from locally sourced British produce to create fresh, delicious dishes that capture the tempo and energy of the seasons.
The kitchen is headed up by Rob Boer, who began his career in Cornwall under culinary master Nathan Outlaw before continuing to stock his larder with best of British produce at classic pubs including The Black Rat in Winchester where he was part of the brigade that won the venue its first Michelin Star. Three years working as Head Chef for former 2005 Roux Scholar and Great British Chef Matt Tomkinson at Betony in White parish preceded Rob’s move to The Mutton where his expertise with British cuisine is evident on every plate.
Open from midday seven days a week, The Mutton’s ever-changing menus are driven by high quality ingredients that cater to all appetites. From great value two-and-three- course set menus, to Little Lambs kids’ options, sumptuous Sunday roasts, monthly- themed dinners, and everything in between; each dish is executed with a finesse that speaks to the genuine pride taken in its creation.
