About
Originally dating from 1328, this charming rural manor house is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Jane Austen Country, the landscape that inspired her so much, and is only 20 minutes by car (14 miles) away from Jane Austen’s House in Chawton.
In the early 1800s Riversdown was owned by one of the small circle of friends and acquaintances personally asked by Jane Austen to review her books, in this case Emma.
The interior of Riversdown House is cosy, traditional and inspiring.
Each bedroom has its own unique character and some of the rooms look out over the beautiful gardens where native flowers, herbs and vegetables are still grown to this day.
There is a TV room as well as a spacious, shared lounge area where it is often possible to sit and relax in front of an open fire. There is also a terrace adjacent to the house, which is an ideal place for having a cup of tea or reading on sunny days
The grounds contain a golf course, gym, sauna house, tennis courts, an outside swimming pool and lovely short walks with extensive views of the beautiful South Downs countryside. There is also easy access to several lovely, traditional gastro-pubs in nearby villages.
