About
Did you know almost three quarters of the world's surface is covered by water? But what lies beneath the deep blue seas. And what sounds can be found.
Between Saturday 17 July and Sunday 19 September, join the Underwater Agents for a journey below the surface of the world's oceans in a brand new live science show. Grab your snorkels and help uncover the mysteries of the sounds that lurk beneath the deep. Discover how sound travels underwater. Learn why human ears aren't great at picking up sounds under the surface. Find out what natural and man-made sounds might be found beneath the waves. And this wouldn't be a Winchester Science Centre show without some explosive wow moments. Get set for awesome live science with fun audience participation and exciting demos.
And that's not all there is to do at Winchester Science Centre over the summer months…
The days may be longer but in the Planetarium the night sky is always putting on a show. Blast into space for the family adventure of the summer in Solar System Adventure. With hundreds of moons, eight planets, five dwarf planets and one Sun to explore, where will the journey take you? And there's not one but two 360⁰ fulldome subtitled film shows. Vladimir the polar bear and James the penguin are off exploring Earth and the Solar System in Polaris (17 July to 8 August). And Celeste and Moon are heading past our home to find out more about exoplanets, oceanic worlds and super-Earths in Beyond the Sun (9 August to 19 September).
Make the most of the warmer summer days, or embrace the unpredictable rainy British weather, with outdoor fun. In the nature-based Bio:Space zone, families can take part in exciting activities, both inside and outside. There's also an outdoor adventure playground, trim trail and lots of space to enjoy a picnic surrounded by the stunning nature of the South Downs National Park.
Back inside, be wowed by the huge demos in Science Live and come on an exciting adventure through immersive exhibits. Zoom off on an out-of-this-world mission in the Explorer:Space zone and interact with the brand new sound, hearing and vibration exhibition. Venture into an enormous 10m long guitar. Experience the wonder of acoustics inside the sonic rocket. And climb inside a giant ear to explore its inner workings. Plus so much more!
