About
Join us as Shieldhall cruises down Southampton Water towards the Solent. Pass the old Titanic berth, and learn about Southampton's links with RMS Titanic, viewing from the water the Old South Western Hotel where many of the first class passengers and Belfast Guarantee Group stayed before boarding Titanic. Hear about the New York incident that nearly resulted in a collision in Southampton Water between the Titanic and the SS New York. We will welcome guest speaker Ann Victoria Roberts on board, who has written 'The Master's Tale' based on the life of Captain Smith. On our way down Southampton Water and our return to berth, we will get close to the departing cruise ships Arvia and Aurora, always the cue to sound our whistle and play the 'Shieldhall Organ'!
As part of your cruise, see the impressive engine room with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship's steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the Captain and our volunteer crew; listen to the informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and The Solent; pass close to the great ocean liners and container ships; walk the teak decks; relax in the Saloon with our wide range of refreshments including tea / coffee; real ale; a range of Titanic bottled beers; wine and hot and cold food, available on all trips.
Children will have fun with our interactive Shieldhall Passport, collecting stickers from various stations on board!
* And remember – children board free on this sailing (max 3 children per adult, additional children £16 per adult).
On the morning of 7 July, Blue Badge Guide and Shieldhall commentator Nigel Philpott will lead an optional tour around the lower end of Southampton, identifying buildings and recounting tales associated with Titanic. Tickets for this 1 1/2 walking tour, 10.30am – 12 noon, are just £7 each, with proceeds going to Shieldhall. Tickets are limited to just 20 persons, with the tour commencing from outside the Platform Tavern, next to God's House Tower near Town Quay. Children aged 3-15 years will also be welcomed free of charge.
