See Guildhall Square transformed into an urban beach where you can grab a rum cocktail, chill out in deck chairs and even play a spot of volleyball!
Dust off your flipflops, dig out your bucket and spade and get involved in the jam-packed programme of activities and events at Seaside in the Square.
You can also celebrate the 175 of the YMCA with two special takeover days plus enjoy film, theatre, music, quizzes, yoga, pentanque, children and family activities and loads more on the 480 m2 urban beach. Watch out for the Whale!
For the active among you there will be a chance to try out sports with free taster sessions courtesy of Decathlon and Rees Leisure. If you prefer to sit back and relax, then why not take in one of City Eye's film nights in the sand or listen to the fantastic live music programme.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around the Square. Take your pick from pizza, chicken, Thai, Chinese, Italian, Portuguese… the list goes on. Don't forget you can relax and enjoy drinks from the Orange Rooms bar at the Seaside in the Square.
Build-A-Boat Trail: Navigate your way around the city, answering questions, collecting stickers and drawing pictures to complete your boat then take your finished trail sheet to the Seaside in the Square to claim your prize! Don't forget to take some photos on your voyage and post them on social media using #SITS19. You will be entered into a draw to win 2 stand up paddle boards. Trail sheets can be collected at the Seaside in the Square.
The outdoor cinema is completely FREE but you must book in advance to ensure a spot on the beach. If you arrive without a ticket and there is some left, they will of course let you in. Tickets available online. Feel free to bring along picnic blankets for the deep sand area and camping chairs for the seated area. Only those with tickets will be permitted to watch the film from the beach and positions will be completely first come first served so get there early to avoid disappointment (or having to sit behind someone tall!). No alcohol can or glass can be brought onto the beach and no dogs (or other pets) are not allowed in either (sorry!).
