About
Catch up with the cosmos in monthly planetarium specials. Find out what to look out for in this month's night sky and hear the latest space news.
Planetarium Lates offer a monthly opportunity to catch up with our ever-changing sky and hear the latest space news. These fulldome planetarium shows are presented live by the Science Centre's own Planetarium Team, and explore a different topic each month.
The huge, 17m dome is first transformed into a beautiful night sky. The presenter explains what we see and shows how stars and interesting objects can be found by using constellation star patterns to plot your course. When visible, planets and objects like comets or meteor showers will be featured, with great hints and tips for how to best view them.
Then the presenter will give an update of recent space news, offer more information about special events this month, or just explore their favourite topic in more depth. Unexpected space news will also be covered! Topics will change every month and so regular visitors will be able to learn about a variety of different areas of astronomy and space science.
Live shows are presented twice each evening. The first show is more appropriate for beginners and children, while the second goes into a little more depth. Due to the style of show, they are recommended for ages 8yr+, with a minimum age for entry of 5yr.
Schedule:
All live shows include a tour of the night sky followed by a more detailed look at a particular theme. October's theme is the Terrestrial Worlds.
