Southampton offers a jammed packed programme of events throughout the year, with vibrant festivals, top sporting fixtures, West End touring theatre shows, festive delights, live music performances and much, much more. The city plays host to several internationally known events such as the Southampton Boat Show, Common People and ABP Southampton Marathon.
The two-day family friendly festival, Common People, takes place on Southampton Common and sees well-known artists and bands take to the stage to perform an extensive programme of music. As well as the live music you’ll find delicious street food and family attractions.
Southampton Mela Festival takes place in Hoglands Park and celebrates an assortment of musical styles including Bollywood, World Music, Asian Fusions, Indian Classical and Flamenco. See performances on the main stage, enjoy family activities and taste foods from around the world.
The city’s Cultural Quarter is home to some of Southampton’s best event spaces. The O2 Guildhall Southampton offers a schedule of live music performances, Southampton City Art Gallery and John Hansard Gallery host special art exhibitions and the MAST Studios offers a programme of performing arts, talks, films and comedians. The space in the middle of the Cultural Quarter also hosts a number of pop-up events throughout the year including cycling events, performances and parades.
On Bonfire Night head to Mayflower Park where the city puts on a specular display of fireworks over Southampton water.
In September the city plays host to the Southampton Boat Show. This internationally renowned event attracts thousands of visitors from across the globe to admire and purchase the latest super yachts, sailing boats and maritime equipment. The event offers a number of family activities and taster sessions for SUP, kayaking, sailing and other water-based activities.
Southampton Football Club’s stadium is a short walk from the city centre and holds Premier League, and international football matches, as well as concerts and stadium tours.
If you love cricket head to The Ageas Bowl Cricket ground on the outskirts of the city. The ground host Twenty20, 1 day and test matches at national and international cricket level as well as concerts and the popular Ageas Bowl Fireworks in November.
During the spring the city closes its roads for the annual ABP Marathon Event. This event has built in popularity each year and now attractions thousands of runners from across the country. The event includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10k and a fun run mile for children.
At Christmas step into a winter wonderland when the city centre and high street comes alive with a German inspired Christmas market and festive ice rink. The Christmas pantomime at The Mayflower Theatre is a must see.
