About
Bramshott is delighted to announce that after a 4-year hiatus the hugely popular Bramshott Open Gardens weekend is returning this year on June 11th and 12th.
'BOG' as it is affectionately known, has traditionally been held every two years, when the residents of Bramshott village come together to open their gardens and offer a warm welcome to visitors, while raising valuable funds for worthy local causes and the young people in our community. As the largest open gardens event of its kind in Hampshire, over 25 private gardens are opened to visitors, covering a huge range and variety from courtyards and terraces to veggie patches, to stunning show gardens with beautiful vistas and delightful ponds.
Over 70 residents volunteer to help over the busy weekend, and it is now a highly organised two-day event with free parking and complementary shuttle buses to ferry visitors around the village.
This year as well as all the gardens to admire, visitors will also be able to enjoy the licensed Tea Tent, a BBQ serving locally-sourced burgers and hot dogs with vegan options, the hugely popular Plant Sale, a Tombola, Art Gallery featuring local artists and craftspeople, and a Classic Car Display!
Having had to cancel the 2020 and 2021 events the organising committee is very excited to open the village to visitors once again and raise even more funds to support local causes, all of whom have been hard hit by the events of the last couple of years.
"The main reason for our Open Gardens is to raise funds for those who need them most in our local area" commented Committee Chair Fiona Grist, "and especially because of the uncertainty and hardship of the last two years we are all very excited to host this fabulous community event again and share our gardens with our generous and loyal visitors".
The success of the last open gardens event in 2018, with over 1,000 visitors, plus the proceeds from popular plant sales in 2020 and 2021, have enabled the committee to donate more than £20,000 to local good causes! This includes Macmillan Cancer, Liphook Food Bank, Liphook Football Club (specifically to help children of families suffering financial hardship), Liphook Scouts and Liphook Guides (to support their work in ensuring the greatest possible number of youngsters benefit from the facilities they offer).
The funds generated also support important village activities including the renovation of the War Memorial at St Mary's Church, a new kitchen area inside the church, restoration of stone walling, and the creation of a unique memorial bench carved from a fallen oak tree in the central village triangle.
This year the 17th Open Gardens weekend will be officially opened by none other than renowned Anglophile and bestselling author Bill Bryson, who is also a keen gardener and legendary lover of the countryside.
