Join the Mayor of Basingstoke on Remembrance Sunday as he lays a wreath at the War Memorial before leading a parade into town. Be part of constructing a giant poppy, help the Thornycroft Girls put together a custom-made vintage car and enjoy a variety of workshops and storytelling events as we commemorate Remembrance Day in Basingstoke.
Also look out for the four Royal British Legion Silent Silhouettes around town and share your picture on social media with #BasingstokeRemembers.
The Giant Poppy Get-together will take place in Porchester Square, Festival Place (outside M&S) from 11am to 3pm. Be part of something big – help make a giant poppy with artist Louise Hight before it goes on display at the Basingstoke Discovery Centre.
Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade starts at the War Memorial at 11am. Join the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane on Remembrance Sunday as he, and others, lay wreaths at the War Memorial in recognising and remembering those who served and sacrificed their lives during the First World War. Any members of the public, who wish to do so, may attend.
Scratchbuilt Productions present The Thornycroft Girls at Castle Square, The Malls. Performances at 12.30pm and 2.30pm. For children and their families. No need to book, this event is feee. Join Milly and Tilly on a journey back to wartime Britain. Local theatre company, Scratchbuilt Productions, in collaboration with Tin Shed Scenery will introduce you to the girls at work in the Thornycroft factory in Basingstoke, helping to create the vehicles the company is famous for. With the men away at war, the women have realised that they have the power to become chefs, farmers, plumbers, train drivers and mechanics. Milly and Tilly will be in The Malls showing off a custom-made vintage car which they're working on. Come along and help them to put it together, hear their stories and join in the fun.
Scratchbuilt Productions present Shed of Stories with Bryn Strudwick: Once Upon a Wartime at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. For children under 7: FREE
Join local storyteller Bryn Strudwick as he delves into the pages of well-loved books, bringing stories of war dramatically to life.
