Escape to the country and drive through the gates of Lainston House, up the winding drive, to enter a world where historic charm and contemporary elegance blend seamlessly. This charming 17th-century country house is a luxurious five star hotel, encapsulated in 63 acres of Hampshire countryside. During your stay take time to explore the grounds. Find the 12th century chapel ruin, walk the avenue of lime trees to the beech tree at the top and enjoy the incredible views of the house, explore the kitchen garden and stroll through the woods into the nearby village of Sparsholt. The hotel can also lend you bikes should you wish to explore the area on two wheels.
Accommodation
A warm welcome is always waiting at Lainston House. In the colder months the roaring fire offers a feeling of warmth and in warmer months the large windows and doors allow fresh air to flow through the house and the opportunity to sit on one of the many terraces to soak up the sun.
The house has 50 individually styled and designed en suite bedrooms and suites all full of their own charm and character. Some rooms feature elegant four-poster beds, rain showers, roll-top baths or jacuzzi baths and original features. The hotel also has a feature suite with private hot tub situated on its own private terrace – for the ultimate in indulgence. All rooms and suites are fully equipped with spa toiletries and coffee machines. Some rooms are also dog friendly so even your canine companion can enjoy your time in the country.
Food and Beverage Experiences
Lainston House offers a wealth of dining experiences to discover. Whether you are looking for a fine dining experience in the Avenue Restaurant or a more relaxed dinner in the woodfired Wellhouse Restaurant, everything is possible. During the day indulge in afternoon tea in the drawing room or enjoy a light lunch from the all day dining menu. In the evenings relax with a cocktail in the Cedar bar and in the summer the outdoor terrace is the perfect place for sipping a glass of Champagne, or a chilled glass of wine.
The Avenue Restaurant and Chefs Table
The very popular Avenue restaurant offers a wonderful a la carte menu alongside the memorable tasting menu. Food is sourced from the best local suppliers ensuring sustainability and the freshest flavours. And if looking for something really special, the Chefs table can be booked for groups of up to 8 and offers a truly intimate experience.
The Wellhouse Restaurant and Kitchen Garden
May 2021 saw the opening of the new woodfired restaurant, The Wellhouse. One of the UK's very few restaurants to have all dishes cooked by woodfire, The Wellhouse is an exciting new restaurant offering unique food, drink and social experience, celebrating the simplicity of woodfired ovens and smokers. Sat inside the historic rustic-luxe surroundings, you'll be able to see, smell and taste the delights of woodfired cooking and for those special occasions, you can enjoy private dining in the idyllic outside setting of the vast kitchen garden.
Season Cookery School
Season is the Exclusive Hotels cookery school. Run by a team of award winning Chefs, Season cookery school is located in a beautiful converted well house within the grounds of Lainston House. With state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, a dedicated modern dining space and a kitchen garden complete with pizza oven and outdoor seating, you can learn from our award-winning and Michelin starred chefs within Exclusive, as well as external experts. Classes to book include Posh BBQ, woodfired pizza, succulent steak, knife skills, plot to plate, plant based and many more.
What to do near by
Located near the historic city of Winchester and just an hour from London by train, there’s plenty to see and do in the local area. In the city visit the magnicifent cathedral, tour Winchester College, sit by the river and Wolvesey Castle or indulge in the fantastic boutique shopping on offer. Salisbury and Stonehenge are also just a short drive away as are Jane Austen’s house, Highclere Castle; home of Downton Abbey, Bombay Sapphire Distillery. Dont forget the famous River Test is close by and perfect for fly fishing – the hotel can help with bespoke fly fishing packages. For families the hotel is just a short drive to Paultons park and Peppa Pig World and the award winning Marwell Zoo.
