About
For a staycation surrounded by the New Forest’s magical woods, heathlands, and wildflower meadows is Japonica Cottage (sleeps 8 and is dog-friendly). It’s in the tiny hamlet called Bank and a toddle away from one of the National Park’s much-loved pubs, The Oak.
Hidden under a thick thatch, this grand cottage’s large rooms are framed with a tapestry of exposed chunky beams and vaulted ceilings, all bathed in natural light. Quality furniture, crisply painted walls, and an inglenook fireplace in the lounge hosting a turntable and a collection of vinyl records set the scene for a classically chic and fun holiday home to unwind and relax. In addition to the spacious lounge diner with a sofa bed for occasional use, there’s a twin bedroom, with additional truckle beds under. Upstairs is a king-size double bedroom and a third bedroom, which can be made as a single or twin.
The cottage is surrounded by a huge garden with well-stocked borders, colourful shrubs and trees filled with birds and woodland wildlife. Sit with a coffee and spot ponies and donkeys plodding along the lane, or nab a spot in the cute summer house and sip your favourite tipple in the sun. The large lawn is perfect for little ones to run around and let off some steam, and a BBQ is on hand for al fresco dining as you fall into step with the gentle tempo of forest life.
