A summer of live music is approaching and the new trend of gig tripping – combining live music at gigs or festivals with a trip to a new destination – is a great way to plan a short break.
We’ve lined up the hottest music acts set to perform in Hampshire this summer in brilliant destinations to explore.
Take That - This Life On Tour at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton
1 and 2 June 2024
The OG boy band is back with a new tour for 2024 and the Take That trio – Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald – will be performing at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June. They’ll also be supported by Olly Murs so it’s sure to make for the Greatest Day.
Take That – This Life On Tour – is a huge tour around the UK to celebrate the release of their ninth studio album, This Life.
STAY: The superyacht-shaped Harbour Hotel Southampton is the ultimate rockstar hangout with a luxury spa and rooftop bar with views of the Ocean Village marina.
EAT: Oxford Street has a great selection of bars and restaurants including the White Star Tavern, where passengers and crew of the Titanic wined and dined.
VISIT: Whilst in the city, walk the historic city walls or head to Westquay for some shopping.

Southampton Summer Sessions
15, 16, 23, and 26-30 June 2024
An exciting new series of gigs is coming to town this June with the Southampton Summer Sessions that will see the city’s Guildhall Square transformed into a buzzing live music hub. Headline acts include Tom Jones performing on 15 June, Madness on 16 June, Nile Rodgers & CHIC on 23 June, Paloma Faith on 28 June, and Kaiser Chiefs on 30 June.
STAY: The Piglet of The Pig’s portfolio of chic hotels, the Pig in the Wall is a boutique hotel set within Southampton’s historic medieval walls. Out of town the Hilton Southampton at the Utilia Bowl is a fantastic place to stay with views of the iconic Utilita Bowl cricket stadium and an 18-hole golf course and spa to enjoy.
EAT: Visit Mettricks in Guildhall Square for a post-gig brunch and some of the best coffee in the city.
VISIT: Guildhall Square is in Southampton’s Cultural Quarter where you’ll also find the Southampton City Art Gallery, SeaCity Museum, and John Hansard Gallery.

Winchester Foodies Festival
19 – 21 July 2024
Music, food, and a mini break to England’s historical capital city, what’s not to love? The nation’s top chefs and music artists are combined at the Winchester Foodies Festival – a delectable celebration of cooking, tasty food, delicious drinks, and live music.
Symphonic Ibiza and Blue will be bringing the music, and MasterChef Champions, Michelin-starred and top local chefs will be cooking up their signature summer recipes in the Chefs Theatre.
STAY: Continuing with the foodie theme, stay at the original Hotel du Vin in the city centre with its own extensive wine cellar.
EAT: If you’re not full of delicious food from the festival itself, then there are excellent cafes and restaurants to try including The Ivy Brasserie Winchester.
VISIT: No visit to Winchester is complete without a trip to marvel at the majestic Winchester Cathedral and King Arthur's Round Table in the Great Hall.

Victorious Festival, Portsmouth
23 – 25 August 2024
With headliners Fatboy Slim, Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro, and Jamie T, Victorious Festival is set to be one of its best yet in 2024.
Situated on the stunning Southsea Seafront in the maritime city of Portsmouth, Victorious is a three-day festival over the August bank holiday weekend featuring some of the world’s biggest music artists.
STAY: If you don’t fancy the Victorious Festival offsite camping then try the Mercer Collection, a group of boutique hotels in Portsmouth including the Florence Gardens Boutique Hotel and the Somerset House Boutique Hotel in Southsea.
EAT: Outside of the festival, Southsea has some excellent eateries including traditional fish and chips from The Fisherman’s Kitchen, or pies with soul from record store Pie and Vinyl.
VISIT: Walk along the seafront via the cobbled streets of Old Portsmouth to the iconic Spinnaker Tower, outlet shopping at Gunwharf Quays, and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard – home to the HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose.

CarFest, Laverstoke Park Farm
Olly Murs, Sam Ryder, Beverly Knight, and Scouting for Girls are amongst the top-billed line-up at Car Fest South 2024.
The creation of DJ Chris Evans, CarFest is a unique mix of fast cars, live music, and tasty food taking place at the stunning Laverstoke Farm, home of the former Formula 1 World Champion Jody Scheckter.
STAY: If festival camping isn’t your thing then the Norton Park hotel is just a 10-minute drive away with luxury bedrooms and a spa so that you can refresh and relax before and after the festival.
EAT: The Watership Down Inn – named after the adored book by local author Richard Adams – is a beautiful Test Valley pub a short drive from the festival.
VISIT: If you prefer your gin out of a chic cocktail glass rather than a festival cup, the nearby Bombay Sapphire Distillery is well worth a pre- or post-festival visit.
